Cathleen Bergner

The pianist Cathleen Charlotte Bergner
was born in Halle/Saale and
began playing piano at the age of five.
At nine, she was already receiving lessons at the
Franz Liszt Weimar Academy for Music from
Professor Volkmar Lehmann. After training at the
Special School of Music of Weimar, Schloss
Belvedere
under Professor Sigrid Lehmstedt and
later under Professor Klaus Hellwig (Berlin
University of Arts
), she studied musicology and
art history in Weimar, Jena and Siena.


In 2003 she began her piano studies at the
Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg
under Professors Sigrid Lehmstedt and
Marco Antonio de Almeida and graduated with
honours. She continued in 2008 with postgraduate
studies in Piano Concert Exams which she completed
in June 2011.


Cathleen has also taken part in numerous Master
Classes, including the Weimar Master Classes at
the Salzburg International Summer Academy with
Professors Bernhard Ringeissen, Klaus Hellwig,
Lilya Silberstein and Dmitri Bashkirov. She is currently
a student of Mi-joo Lee at the University of Arts in
Berlin
.


Cathleen Bergner has been awarded several prizes
in national and international competitions, including
the German national youth competition “Jugend
musiziert”, the Robert Schumann Competition for
Young Pianists in Zwickau, the International Steinway
Competition in Berlin (First Prize and Special Award
from the German Chopin Society for the best
interpretation of a Frederik Chopin piece), and the
International South Bohemia Piano Competition in
Tabor, Czech Republic.


Cathleen can be heard as a soloist in piano recitals
at several venues. She made her debut with an
orchestra at the Robert Schumann Piano Concert in
A Minor for the birthday celebration of Schumann in
2010 at the Celle Congress Union with the Celle
Resident Orchestra conducted by Andrzej Berezynski.


Beside her concert appearances, Cathleen gives
lessons at the Music and Art School in Jena.
